School-age children from 5 to 16 years

Support for your child
We will offer support in your child's school. Our aims are to:
- help your child access the school curriculum
- stay safe on school trips, especially residential stays
- help your child develop awareness of their own deafness and how to manage it
- develop your child's independence with aids and equipment
We will do this by:
- observing your child in the classroom
- talking to the class teacher
- providing advice and equipment
- assessing your child's functional hearing (how they are using their hearing and their hearing aids)
- supporting requests for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and attending annual reviews where appropriate

Support for the school
We will support the school by:
- supporting them to meeting the needs of the child
- discussing the child's needs with the teacher and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, for example, learning needs, environmental adaptations, changes to the curriculum, access arrangements for exams
- training on equipment
- training and awareness for individual staff members or the whole school
- helping with risk assessments for school trips
- contributing to annual reviews of a child's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
- supporting transitions between schools
