Augmentative and Alternative Communication referrals

Referrals to the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) come direct from Physical Disability team or from an NHS Speech and Language Therapist. 

Our criteria

We do support:

  • Children and young people who have been diagnosed by the Health Authority as having a medical diagnosis of a physical disability resulting in unintelligible speech
  • Children and young people who have or are awaiting an EHCP
  • Children and young people who are attending or will soon be attending a mainstream educational setting in Hampshire
  • Children and young people who have a significant discrepancy between their receptive and expressive language

We don't support:

  • Children and young people attending special schools, except when transitioning to or from a mainstream school

Your consent

If your child is referred to the AAC team additional parental consent is required. We will contact you to obtain consent.

Without parental consent we can't proceed with providing assessment or support.

If the criteria is met and parental consent received, we will arrange a joint visit with the NHS Speech and Language Therapist to see what support can be implemented.
