Events - listing slider and search pages

Overview

This template pulls in events from the existing events systems.

Events page and detail child page

Navigate to where you want to build your new events page in the navigation. Create a page by right clicking the parent and press Insert and then Insert from template. Under page templates highlight HCC_Landing page template, give it a name and press Insert.

Right click your new landing page and select Insert and then Insert from template. Expand Page templates and select HCC_EventDetail. It will look something like the screenshot below.

Events Listing Settings

Create listing settings in common-content, Searches, Events, Events Listing Setting. Right click Events Listing Setting and select Insert and then Events Listing Setting again.

Give your item a name which relates to your pages that it will be connecting too and press Insert. Name the Theme: field.

Select the appropriate Venue and / or Category with the drop down arrows.

Themes, venues and categories

Themes, venues and categories are setup in common-content, Global settings, Global lookups and then Events. Each theme, venue and category is linked to the eWorks systems and has a specific ID setup (in the Value fields). Speak to the BAU team in the Web team so they can help set one up and generate an ID.

In the Search URL: field choose Insert link. Point this to the parent 'events' page you setup for your new site.

In the Details URL: field choose Insert link. Point this to the child 'events details' page you setup for your new site.

Events search forms

Set up a search form in common-content by navigating to common-content and expanding Searches, Events and then the Events search forms folder. Right click on the folder, select Insert and then Insert from template. In the window that opens, navigate to Templates, Form templates and select EventsSearchForm. Give the item a name and press Insert.

Ignore the Title and Link Title fields as this will just duplicate the information already set on your main page.

In the Form Action URL: field use the drop down to point to the parent events page for your site.

Choose the appropriate Theme, Venue and / or Category using the drop down fields.

In the URL for events link: field use the drop down to point to the parent events page for your site.

In the URL for events detail: field use the drop down to point to the child events detail page for your site.

Facet configuration field

Tick Show which are about (Categories) and Show which are about (Themes) options if appropriate.

Facet options

Show Categories, Themes and Venues that are non - venue specific. Highlight each item and press the blue right arrow to move them to the Selected area. This determines what you see in the filters on the main page down the left hand side.

Adding the event to the page

Go to your search page (events) and then open Experience Editor.

Choose the middle rendering called 'hantsweb_landingPageContent' and then Add here.

Data source (finding your event)

On Experience Editor press on your event to bring up the EventSearch box. Under the More drop down press Edit component properties.

Scroll to the Data Source area and press Browse. Navigate to common-content, Searches, Events, Events search forms and then select the correct event. Press OK and save the page.
