COVID-19 testing if you have no symptoms

Community test booking for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

Community testing

  • Community testing is a programme for testing people without COVID-19 symptoms to help reduce transmission of coronavirus. The testing is free and available to everyone from 9 April.
  • Around 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 have no symptoms so could be spreading the disease without knowing it.
  • Community testing will help us identify more positive cases quickly and support people to self-isolate, therefore breaking chains of transmission and protecting communities.

Community testing is carried out using a lateral flow test. Most tests generate results in under half an hour.

Find out about lateral flow testing

This page is for people without symptoms who want to book an appointment for a supervised lateral flow test at a community testing site. You can also pick up test kits for use at home from a community testing site.

Do not attend a community testing site if you start displaying COVID-19 symptoms or have been told to isolate by NHS Test and Trace.

If you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, you should book a symptomatic test.

If you have recently tested positive and completed an isolation period following this positive test result you do not need to test again for 90 days from your last positive test result. If you develop any new symptoms during this time, you should book a symptomatic test.

Drop in for a test, or book in advance

Community testing sites are accepting walk-ins. There is no need to book an appointment for a supervised test or to collect test kits for use at home. Simply drop in to your nearest site. Locations are shown below.

Instructions if you want to book a test

You must be over 16 years old to book.

  1. Read and understand your responsibilities
  2. Use the map and list of testing locations to find your nearest testing site.
  3. Follow the booking links to book a test at that site.

It is recommended that you do not eat or drink for 30 minutes before your test.

Your responsibilities

By booking an appointment, attending and providing a sample for COVID-19 testing, you confirm that:

  • you are aged 16 years or over and do not currently have any symptoms of COVID-19
  • you understand this test is voluntary
  • you understand you are required by law to self-isolate for ten days if you test positive for COVID-19
  • you understand the purpose of the test is to identify people who have COVID-19 but who have no symptoms, so they can isolate to avoid infecting others
  • you understand that a negative result does not guarantee that you do not have COVID-19 or that you are not infectious. You must comply with all current COVID-19 regulations
On arrival at the testing site, there is a registration process. Please remember to bring your mobile phone, as well as glasses or any other visual aid you will need to complete this.
There are no childcare facilities at testing sites and staff cannot be responsible for looking after young children while they are overseeing tests.
