Visiting narrow boats and cruisers

If you wish to bring your boat onto the canal you will need a Basingstoke Canal Authority licence

You can bring a boat registered on another Navigation Authority’s waters onto the Basingstoke Canal as a visiting boat for a maximum of 28 days. During your visit you may moor in any reasonable place on the towpath side for up to 72 hours. 

You need to purchase a visitor licence, hold appropriate insurance and comply with the Boat Safety Scheme. You must provide a copy of your insurance certificate either at the time of booking or when meeting the duty Lock Keeper at Lock 1.  

All boat movements through locks need to be booked in advanced - see lock opening times.

If you are coming on from the River Wey you will also need a Wey transit licence from the National Trust.
