The Royal Victoria Hospital was almost a town in itself: a huge, 200-acre site with its own gasworks, reservoir, station, stables, laundry, bakery and post office. There was a grand officers’ mess, complete with ballroom, and modest married quarters for other ranks. There was even a swimming pool used for medical treatment, a theatre, billiards room, tennis courts and skittle alley.
Now you can explore this site from the comfort of your living room in the company of the Royal Victoria Chapel’s Heritage Officer, Ursula Pearce. With video, images and live commentary, this armchair tour will leave you feeling you’ve actually walked round the park.
The tour will last approximately 1.5 hrs and includes opportunities to ask questions.
