In this blog, I’ve split it into two parts, with a Chapel Works update along with updates on other improvements to the park you will see over the next year
Now, this bit is to tell you a bit more about the other investments that Hampshire County Council is making to make your park even better.
We want more visitors to experience the wonderful opportunities this park has to offer such an open space ready for exploring, walking, picnicking, a place to stroll along the beach and a great location for families to come and play.
We’re investing over £340,000 in the following year and you’ll see these improvements over the next few months and into next year. The first one you’ll see will be our new Heritage and Bluebell trail at the end of April.
Heritage and Bluebell trail
Many people don’t know where the bluebell woods are and their hidden history related to the hospital (e.g. the asylum walls and the stables were located there). We’ll widen the pathway, laying a walkway to take you through the woodland, and put up information boards that will tell you a bit more about the hospital, the wildlife and fauna in this part of the park. The pathway/trail will be ready by Easter and the interpretation boards will be installed later in the year.
Wet Weather Covering
Whether you’re walking your dogs, walking or just having a leisurely visit we know that sometimes good old English weather is not always sunny! So, outside of the Empire Rooms we’re installing 2 canopies which will provide respite from the rain (and maybe even the sun on those scorching days to come!). These will be installed in the latter part of this year.
We’re investing £49,000 in improving pre-school children’s play. This will mean that for a short time before Easter part of the area will be closed off for the installation of the new play equipment. We’ll be removing some of the 20 year old wooden play equipment in the “agility” play area (opposite the toddler play area) but we’ll keep the swings and slide.
We’ll be creating a new picnic area where the current agility play area is and we’ll clear away some of the scrub so you can enjoy views of the Chapel and the sea. This will be a great area to sit and eat your picnics, have an ice cream or just sit and take in the views.
We’ll be installing new signage and wayfaring around the park, making it easier for visitors to find their way around and to explore new areas they might not have known about.
Cafe and toilet block improvements
We’ll be investing to update our kitchen to make sure we can offer you a new menu, along with some redecoration in the café. We are also going to give our toilet block a refresh.
We’ll be putting further information up on our notice boards and on our new website when it’s launched. Don’t forget you can ask any of the park team about the works or email me directly. If you haven’t already, sign up to the park’s Facebook page where we will be posting updates about the works starting and other interesting developments.
Our blogs will resume at the end of this month - and we’ll also share progress with you through Facebook. Let me know if there is anything that you want us to focus on in future blogs by email email@example.com
