Winter-flowering shrubs have to work extra hard to attract insects. This means that their flowers are often very fragrant. For example Lonicera, Hamamelis, Viburnum, Chimonanthus, Sarcococoa and Daphne. It is also a good time to see evergreen plants, and a wide range of conifers in all shades of green, grey, blue and yellow.
You can also enjoy carpets of snowdrops and some of the most colourful barks and shoots such as Betula, Prunus, Rubus and Cornus.
