Activities

A day’s programme does not necessarily include all the listed activities and can be adapted to suit individual needs and requirements. Normally we fit in three to five activities during your visit.

Colour palettes to look carefully at the variety of colours found on different parts of plants
Colour filters to see the gardens from different coloured viewpoints
Leaf sort to appreciate the wide variety of different colours and shapes of leaves and to distinguish between evergreen and deciduous plants
Leaf match to observe carefully the wide range of leaves in the gardens (shape, colour and texture) and distinguish between evergreen and deciduous plants
Un-nature trail a greater understanding of camouflage whilst hunting for hidden objects in the natural environment
Meet a tree to use their available senses to identify a tree. Note, this is a blindfold game of trust
Giant Caterpillar trail explore the Gardens as a giant caterpillar. Note, this is a blindfold game of trust
Touch eggs to appreciate the different textures and patterns found in nature
Texture cards that there are a variety of textures to be found in the natural environment
Shape cards that there are a variety of shapes to be found in the natural environment
Colour sticky strips about the range of different coloured and textured materials found in the Gardens by collecting items to create an individual coloured strip
Smelly sticky strips about the range of different smells found in the Gardens by collecting items to create an individual smelly strip
Smelly socks
to observe smells out in the Gardens and express their likes and dislikes

Blindfold partner game to listen to and follow directions without the sense of sight
Bamboo products hunt to distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made
Session times

10am to 2.30pm
with a break for a picnic lunch at 12pm in or near the Education Centre.
