On-school activity days

teamwork activity on a school site

With the Government’s announcement that residential school trips cannot go ahead in this autumn term – we have diversified our offer and have hit the road to take outdoor learning to your school gates. Last week we visited Froxfield Primary school to deliver a full day of activities for their year 5 and 6 students. The photos in this article were taken on the day.

Although, we have welcomed a number of schools to our centres for activity days during this term – which have been of great success, as seen in our previous article – we are just not seeing the volume of students that we normally would if residential visits were allowed to go ahead.

Our answer to this problem is to have a range of outdoor learning packages which can be delivered on your school grounds, or in a hall if the weather is not playing ball.

Our days can be tailored to suit your needs and may include:

  • Map-work and orienteering tasks
  • Teamwork, leadership and communication challenges
  • Eco and nature orientated activities.
We were delighted with the quality of the activities, organisation and supervision of the activity day recently provided by Hampshire Outdoor Centres. We had selected team-building and map reading for our main focus points and the challenges were well-paced and appropriate for the age of children. The sessions were extremely well-prepared and delivered in a safe professional manner; we are hoping to book another day soon for another Class

The student feedback was great too:

  • "It was really fun, enjoyable and I would like to do it again”.
  • "It was a really enjoyable day and I thought it was a good way to help us learn to work as a team."
  • "It helped us realise how important teamwork is."

Our activity days are great for supporting the national curriculum, particularly around the PE criteria of introducing Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) to your students. A selection of the activities we deliver can be replicated by your teaching staff at a later date – making this a great sport and outdoor activity CPD opportunity for your staff too. It is possible that your PE and Sport premium can be used to support certain activities that we offer.
