Further and higher education programme at Calshot Activities Centre

CalshotA short drive from Calshot, Christchurch Bay offers a fantastic case study opportunity for those studying coastal management as part of their AS or A-level Geography course, for example AQA Coastal Systems and Landscapes syllabus. Barton-on-Sea (pictured) is an excellent location to evaluate the effectiveness of coastal management strategies and methods. Students will evaluate the range of sea defences used to manage this stretch of coastline including rock armour, groynes, cliff drainage work and coastal retreat. Field sketches, photographs, surveys and questionnaires can all be used to investigate the impact of coastal management on local stakeholders and the environment.
