Let our experienced Mountain Leaders guide you on an exploration of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. You’ll spend the day climbing one of the peaks and having a real adventure across the tranquil Welsh countryside. This walk is great for families, couples, or groups who want to learn a bit more about the local area.

We prefer not to follow the well-trodden paths, so you will enjoy the tranquillity of the outdoors while learning about the area. As you hike the mountains, our instructors will also teach you about the area’s geology, natural history, and the flora and fauna around you.

Twyn Y Gaer hillfort walk

Length: 5 miles

Type: Circular

Starting point: Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Visitor Centre

Distance from Argoed Lwyd: 0.7 miles (3 minute drive)

Head slightly down the road from Argoed Lwyd to enjoy this circular walk. Starting at the visitor centre, this adventure gives you a chance to uncover the remains of an Iron Age hillfort at the top of Twyn y Gaer. Soak up the stunning views of the Welsh countryside, as well as a taste of the area’s history, and then head to the visitor centre for a warming cup of tea or a refreshing cold drink!

Type: Circular Starting point: Brecon, LD3 9AN

Distance from Argoed Lwyd: 4.2 miles (9 minute drive)

Follow the River Usk as you wander through the town of Brecon. With plenty of benches to watch the world go by from, it’s a gentle route that can be taken at your own pace. See if you can spot kingfishers, cormorants, and ducks enjoying the water. You should also keep an eye out for the historic Llanfaes Bridge, which has seven arches. It was built in 1563!

Beacons Circuit

Length: 11 miles

Type: Circular

Starting point: Storey Arms

Distance from Argoed Lwyd: 5.1 miles (9 minute)

Explore the main summits and ridges of the Central Beacons. This walk will take you up three peaks (Corn Du, Pen y Fan, and Cribyn) giving you a chance to see extraordinary views and achieve a truly impressive feat.

Bannau Brycheiniog horseshoe ridge circular walk

Distance from Argoed Lwyd: 14.3 miles (23 minute drive)

Try this adventurous circular mountain walk in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Explore Pen y Fan, take in views across the Usk Balley, and even spot a Bronze Age burial cairn. This walk might be challenging, but the views are well worth the effort.
