We know that residential visits are a great way to experience the world beyond the classroom and enhance outdoor learning, but that the cost of transport can be a barrier for some. That’s why we’re offering new and existing customers additional support towards transport costs if they book a trip to Argoed Lwyd on one of our selected dates. Frequently asked questions
What financial assistance is available?
Alongside our winter season savings offer and winter transport fund, you can apply for the Young Person Support Fund. The standard funding covers 10% of the cost per person. You are also able to apply for a higher percentage of funding for a specific number of young people, or for a specific amount of funding towards the visit.
What happens in bad weather?
Our instructors will monitor the weather throughout your visit. We’ll make adaptations to your chosen activities where necessary to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
How will my class get to the centre?
There are three recommended options: coach, train, or minibus. If you arrive by coach, we’ll meet you with our minibuses in a nearby layby as the road up to the centre is not suitable for coaches. If you arrive by train, we suggest heading to Cardiff or Newport, and from there you can either arrange your own onward travel to the centre, or we can collect you in our minibuses. Minibus charges apply.
How will we get to offsite activities?
If you travel to the centre by minibus, you’ll be able to use the same vehicle to travel to any offsite activities (except for canoeing – we’ll always provide transport for that). Otherwise, we can provide transport to activities for an additional cost.
Do you offer preview visits and other pre-trip support?
Yes. You can take our virtual 360° tour or contact us to arrange a visit. We’ll be in contact with you through every step of the planning process. We’ll also provide you with a presentation that you can show parents and pupils what they can expect from a trip to Argoed Lwyd.
Can I tailor my package to suit my class?
Yes, we’ll help you create an experience to suit your needs and budget. You’ll have the opportunity to add on extras such as:
- Catering
- Minibus transport to and from activities
- Bedding
- Camping
- Overnight expeditions
- Duke of Edinburgh training / assessment
What support do you offer onsite?
Our instructors will meet with your school staff every morning to discuss the day ahead and address any previous or potential issues.
Someone in my group needs adjustments for religious or cultural requirements, dietary requirements, or disability. Can you accommodate this?
Yes, we’ll work with you to meet any additional needs. We can assign some bedrooms as prayer rooms or quiet spaces. If you choose to have your stay catered, our team will ensure your menu meets all dietary requirements. Our instructors will work with you to ensure all activities are adapted to suit your group. Please add a note of any additional needs to your enquiry form.
Can activities be linked to the curriculum?
Yes, during the planning process we’ll ask you about the aims for your visit. Then, we’ll form your programme around what you tell us.
