Jul 11 2024

We understand that you might have questions about visiting and the ongoing improvements at Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve. The Frequently Asked Questions is designed to provide you with all the information you need. Whether you’re planning a visit, curious about the changes, or need details about facilities, you’ll find the answers here.

Can I still visit the reserve?

Absolutely! Visitors can continue to enjoy Titchfield Haven by purchasing tickets online (link) or at the shop as usual, which will remain operational during the improvements.

Where can I buy tickets to visit the reserve?

Tickets are still available online, and at the shop, which is temporarily serving as the ticketing point whilst we make enhancements to the reserve.

Do we have toilets?

The public toilets are still currently available. There are also public toilets located near both sides of the reserve owned by Fareham Borough Council – in Hove Car Park and near the Meon Chalets.

Is there any accessible parking?

We do still have a number of accessible car parking spaces in the yard.

What short term improvements are being made to the reserve?

As a first step we are upgrading the western bridges to improved access to the hides and make easier to carry out habitat management. We are also planning repairs and replacements a number of the hides as well as improving the public information boards and redesigning the yard to relocate staff welfare facilities.

When will the maintenance and repairs start?

The replacement of the western bridges has already started. There will be a programme of improvements over the next 18 months, with the timeline being designed to ensure minimum disturbance to wildlife. Please follow us on Facebook and check our website for updates.

How will the bird hides be improved?

A number of the bird hides will be upgraded to provide a better viewing experience for our visitors, allowing clearer observation of the wildlife, we will be also looking to introduce some new viewing points. Changes to the hides will be planned to ensure durability and sustainability.

Will the reserve be closed during the improvements?

No, the reserve will remain open to the public, however the west side will be closed for approximately six weeks from Wednesday 1st July 2024. The reason for these bridge replacements is due to the current structures not being suitable for the heavy vehicles required to improve and maintain the site.

Over this time of limited access, the reserve will be open free of charge - the boardwalk trail (east side) will remain open to visitors and members. Members will have the closure period extended on to their membership, for example, six weeks closure on a pass expiring on the 30/06/24 will mean a new expiry date of 11/8/24. We are committed to ensuring that visitors can still enjoy the natural beauty of Titchfield Haven throughout this work.

Will there be any new features added to the reserve?

Yes, we are exploring various options to enhance and increase the reserve's habitats as well as how people can interact with the site. Details will be announced as plans are developed.

Is the shop offering the same products and services during the improvements?

The shop will continue to offer a range of products and services to our visitors throughout the improvement period.

Will the improvements affect the local wildlife?
