M27 Junction 9-10 eastbound and Junction 11-9 westbound overnight road closures

Mar 5 2025

As part of the ongoing M27 Junction 10 improvement works to support the Welborne Garden Village development near Fareham, some full and partial overnight lane closures on the M27 are required. Some of these closures will be limited to between Junctions 9 and 10, while others will extend between Junctions 9 and 11.

This traffic management is necessary to safely reduce the number of lanes on the motorway from four to three. This ensures the safety of passing motorway users and also construction staff working on the embankments, particularly around the area of the new underpass, ahead of sheet piling works due to take place in the next couple of months.

The lane reduction on this section of the M27 will be in place for the duration of the scheme.

M27 eastbound and westbound overnight Lane 1, 2 and 3 closures will take place as required (Lane 4 will remain open for traffic):

  • Monday 17 to Thursday 20 March between 9pm and 6am
  • Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 March to between 9pm and 6am
  • This work will allow surveys to be carried out along with the installation of CCTV cameras

Additional lane closures between 9pm and 6am:

  • Sunday 30 March – westbound lane 4 closure for drainage surveys
  • Monday 31 March – eastbound lane closures 1,2 and 3 for barrier installation
  • Tuesday 1 April – westbound lane closures 1, 2 and 3 for barrier installation
  • Monday 7 April to Wednesday 9 April - westbound lane closures 1 and 2 for the delivery of sheet piles construction materials

In recent months, the footprint of the scheme has rapidly taken shape to the north and south of the motorway, and to the west of the A32 (north of Fareham)

The focus of work on site is turning to the construction of a large concrete underpass next to the motorway (see image below showing the outline construction area for the underpass). This 60m long structure will be later slid into position using an innovative ‘boxslide’ approach.

To support this phase of the scheme, several full and partial overnight closures on the M27 will be necessary in late March and early April - some of which will be limited to between Junction 9 and 10 - and some extending between Junction 9 and 11. This is needed to install traffic management which will reduce the number of lanes on the motorway at this section from four to three for the duration of the works.

The measures will enable work on the motorway embankments and in the area around the underpass to be undertaken more safely. Please monitor this scheme web page for exact dates and further information.
