When you walk to school, to your friend's house or anywhere at all, you must follow six simple steps before crossing the road.

These handy rules are called the Green Cross Code:

1. First find a safer place to cross, then stop
2. Stand on the pavement, near the kerb
3. Look and listen for traffic and think about
   what you're doing
4. Wait until its safe to cross. If you are unsure,
   don't cross
5. Keep looking and listening as you cross the road
6. Walk straight across the road - don't run
