Chandlers Ford Accessibility Improvements

Improving accessibility and making it pleasant for the local community.

Latest updates

Hampshire County Council appointed Rocon Contractors Ltd who carried out the improvement works at various locations in Chandlers Ford.

The scheme aims to improve the accessibility conditions on shared use routes across Chandlers Ford. The work involved the removal of obstructive infrastructure such as staggered barriers, guard railing, and bollards which currently prevent access to paths for some users. Dropped kerbs have been implemented in locations where they were missing to enable easier crossing and access to shared use paths. These changes make existing routes far more accessible for those using wheelchairs, mobility buggies, and pushchairs. On shared use paths it provides a more comfortable environment for cycling. As a result of the scheme the conditions in the 29 locations will be far more appropriate to facilitate active travel.

Funding Arrangements
Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
