Andover: East Anton Cycle Link Route 3
Last update: November 2021
- Scheme overview
A series of cycle links have been constructed throughout East Anton in Andover as part of Test Valley Borough Council’s Cycle Strategy and Network. Within the East Anton area, the majority of this network has been constructed as s278 works but this leaves a number of missing links yet to be constructed. The site is an existing 2m wide footpath from the pedestrian/cycle crossing on Smannell Road south into the Cricketers Way estate. This footpath is a very busy link from the surrounding residential areas to the medical centre and convenience store. There is a phone box, letter box and local recycling centre on Smannell Road at this location, as well as a skate park, play area, and sports facilities on the Recreation Ground north of Smannell Road.
The proposal is to widen the existing footpath to a 3m wide shared cycle/footpath. Existing trees will be removed and street lights relocated. There is no nearby alternative pedestrian route on the public highway, so the works is likely to be carried out without a footpath closure. Scheme is designed to complete a network that will encourage sustainable travel choices within Andover.
