Register your car to access Hampshire Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)

You must register your car for continued free access to Hampshire HWRCs

You can register up to three cars at your address.

If you have already registered your car you can book a visit at a Hampshire HWRC.

If you are a Hampshire resident and have registered your vehicle, you can continue to use HWRCs in Portsmouth and Southampton free of charge.

I'm driving a van, pick-up or trailer

If you are bringing household waste in a large vehicle, such as a van, pick-up or a trailer, you may need to apply for a permit.

You do not need to register if you have a permit. You must register your car if you use it to tow your trailer.

I'm not a Hampshire resident

If you are a resident of Portsmouth or Southampton, you can access any Hampshire HWRC free of charge. You will need to register your car.

If you are not a Hampshire resident, you will be charged £5 per visit to a Hampshire HWRC. For details and exceptions, see Out of county customers.

I'm moving house

If you move to a house in Hampshire, you will need to register your car again at your new address to continue free access to Hampshire HWRCs.

If you move to a house outside of Hampshire, you will be charged £5 per visit to a Hampshire HWRC. For details and exceptions, see Out of county customers.

I have a new car

You can register up to three cars at your address. If you need to add or change a vehicle, you must register all of your vehicles again.

I'm hiring a car

You should register your hire car at your Hampshire address.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

Hampshire HWRCs use ANPR cameras to check that vehicles entering have been registered on the Hampshire database. They are also used to monitor usage of HWRC sites.

If your vehicle is not registered on the Hampshire database, you will be approached by site staff. There may be further delays or a charge for using the site.

See the vehicle registration scheme privacy notice for more information.

My vehicle is registered at another address with the DVLA

The Hampshire ANPR system is not connected to the DVLA database. If your car is registered at another address with the DVLA, you can still register it to a Hampshire address to visit a Hampshire HWRC.
