Recycle your waste

Can be recycled at a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC)

Cannot be recycled in your home recycling

If you can remove the battery safely, this can be placed in a battery recycling bin.

The rest of the vape or e-cigarette should then be placed in a WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) drop off point at HWRCs.

If you cannot remove the battery safely, place the whole item in the WEEE drop off point.

Batteries should never be placed in your recycling bin at home as they pose a serious fire risk at waste facilities. Visit Take Charge to find out more.

Household batteries can be recycled at all of the household waste recycling centres in Hampshire. Each site has a designated bin where all batteries should be placed.

Some local councils offer a battery recycling scheme to their residents. Please contact your local council directly for more information.

Keep a look out for in-store collection points where you can take your old batteries for recycling! You can find your nearest collection point on the Recycle Now website.

What happens to your waste?

The contents of your household waste bin will be sent to one of three Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs) in Hampshire, where it will be safely incinerated. Each year, the three ERFs generate enough electricity to power 53,000 Hampshire homes!

Mixed recycling collected from Hampshire households is sorted at one of two Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in Hampshire. The MRFs sort your recycling into different material streams to be recycled into new items.

Less than 5% of Hampshire's household waste is sent to landfill.
