Government funded childcare as part of Best Start in Life - supporting families on their journey from pregnancy through to their child starting school and beyond

Working families of 9-month-olds plus can apply for up to 30 hours of funded childcare per week, over 38 weeks (similar to school terms) - equivalent to 1,140 hours per funded year.

Eligible families can apply to get their funding code by visiting Best Start in Life. Parents need to sign into their childcare account every 3 months to ensure details are up to date to carry on receiving funding.

School-age wraparound and holiday care payment support can be accessed through the Tax-Free Childcare and Universal Credit Childcare schemes. Families can also use these schemes to pay for any approved childcare, such as holiday clubs, breakfast and after school clubs, childminders, home childcarers (nannies), pre-schools and nurseries.

Using Tax-Free Childcare, eligible working parents with children 11 or under can get up to £2000 per child, per year, towards their childcare costs (or up to £4000 for disabled children 16 and under).

Using Universal Credit Childcare, parents can get up to 85% of childcare costs paid back.
