Hampshire County Council to consider car parking proposals at Danebury Hill Fort

Proposals to introduce car parking charges at Danebury Hill Fort are set to be considered by Hampshire County Council later this month

Sep 15 2025

If approved, the plans would introduce charges between 8am and 8pm as follows:

  • £1.20 for up to two hours
  • £2.20 for up to four hours
  • £3.20 for over four hours
  • A flat daily rate of £10.20 for coaches

An annual pass is also being proposed which would be available for £40.20. All charges would include a 20p administration fee for payments made via RingGo which can be used through an app, website, or by phone.

The proposals have been revised following a Traffic Regulation Order consultation held earlier this year.

Councillor Lulu Bowerman, Cabinet Member for Transport and Passenger Services, will review the proposals on Monday 22 September.

Councillor Bowerman said: “Car parking charges are being proposed to help us manage this incredibly special site, including its unique historic and natural features. The goal is to keep fees as low as possible, and I’m pleased that feedback from site users has led to a revised proposal, which I will be considering carefully before making a final decision.”

The principle of implementing off-street chargeable parking at rural sites - where viable - was agreed as part of a wider strategy to support the long-term sustainability of countryside locations. This initiative follows the 2024 Future Services Consultation, in which 53% of respondents supported the introduction of charges at rural car parks with 20 or more spaces. The proposal was subsequently approved by the County Council’s Cabinet in October 2024.
