In Hampshire, two key programmes - Skills Bootcamps and Connect to Work - are playing a vital role in supporting adults into good jobs and helping employers find the talent they need.
Councillor Kirsty North, the County Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Universal Services said: “National Careers Week is a fantastic opportunity to shine a spotlight on the programmes helping people in Hampshire gain new skills, open up employment opportunities, and progress in their careers.
“We have pledged to work with our partners to boost the economy by creating opportunities for Hampshire residents to prosper, supporting them to find rewarding careers while ensuring local employers have the skilled and motivated workforce they need to succeed through our Skills Bootcamps and Connect to Work programme.”
Skills Bootcamps are designed in collaboration with local employers to meet regional skills gaps and delivered with national Government funding. The short courses offer fast-track, flexible training for adults aged 19 and over.
Since 2023, Hampshire County Council’s Skills Bootcamp programme has upskilled over 3,100 people across a range of in-demand skills needed for some of the region’s fastest growing sectors, including: Digital and IT; Construction and trade skills; Early Years and Education; Health and social care; Business and leadership; Creative industries and Hospitality.
Connect to Work was launched earlier this year and is set to play a major role in strengthening Hampshire’s economy. With £18.7 million of national Government funding over a five-year period, the programme is designed to help thousands of people who face barriers to employment move into meaningful and sustainable jobs.
Delivered in partnership with specialist employment organisations Connect to Work focuses on closing local skills gaps while supporting people who face health related or complex barriers to work. By bringing together employment support, skills training and health services, the programme ensures that people receive joined up, personalised guidance, matching their abilities and aspirations with real vacancies and business needs across the county.
