Hampshire County Council is bringing Hampshire Fostering LIVE! to Places Leisure Centre in Eastleigh on Saturday 16 May 2026, from 10am to 1pm. The free drop-in event is open to individuals, couples and families who want to explore fostering honestly, openly and at their own pace. It takes place during Foster Care Fortnight 2026 (11 to 24 May), a nationwide event which highlights the everyday realities of fostering and showcases the positive impact of carers.
Across the county, there are children and young people who need safe, supportive homes where they can feel secure, listened to and able to thrive. Fostering helps these children stay close to their schools, friends and communities while receiving the care and stability they need, but new foster carers are always needed.
For anybody who’s thinking about becoming a foster carer but doesn’t know where to start, this is an event not to miss – you’ll come away with a clear picture of what the role involves and all the support available.
Visitors to the event will be able to talk with experienced social workers, current foster carers and specialist support staff, who will share their knowledge and real-life experiences.
People attending can find out about the different types of fostering needed in Hampshire, hear personal stories from carers, and learn about training, allowances and finances, as well as the professional support – including out-of-hours – provided to every Hampshire foster carer. There will also be opportunities to discuss how fostering can fit around work, family life and different household circumstances, with guidance on the assessment process and preparing your home.
The event is drop-in, with no need to book. Places Leisure Centre has a large free car park and is within walking distance of Eastleigh train station and the town centre.
