Bickerley Green in Ringwood – one of more than 500 care homes in Hampshire – scooped the award at a prestigious ceremony recognising local individuals and teams working across adult social care. Organised by the Hampshire Care Association, the annual awards offer an opportunity to celebrate the dedication of staff across more than 1,110 local care services registered with the Care Quality Commission.
Part of the County Council’s HCC Care and Support offer – which provides a range of community based, residential and nursing care services – Bickerley Green was recognised for its excellence in delivering high-quality, person-centred care. This includes a meaningful wellbeing programme which connects residents with hobbies, activities, community groups and interests, while a series of ‘Dream Days’ enables residents to fulfil long-held personal ambitions – from zip wiring and flying a plane to attending a classical music concert.
The award comes after the home recently achieved Veteran Friendly Framework Status, following significant work to enhance the support and care available to veterans in the home. This has included building strong links with the local community and hosting popular events such as fish and chip suppers with the local veterans’ club and an annual music festival.

In total, this year’s Hampshire Care Awards received more than 560 nominations across 10 categories. It was a successful night for the County Council, which was also one of just three finalists in the ‘Tech for Care’ category – recognising work by the HCC Care Business Support Team to improve how care is delivered to Hampshire residents through technology. This work, which has seen around 1,800 staff move from paper-based records to digital care planning, has improved productivity and communication, both between teams and with residents, while helping people to receive more personalised support that improves their everyday lives.
