Consultation on school catchment area changes which affect: Bursledon CE (Controlled) Infant School, Bursledon (CA) Junior School, Netley Abbey Infant School and Netley Abbey Junior School

Open until

Hampshire County Council is reviewing and consulting upon the school catchment areas for Bursledon CE (Controlled) Infant School, Bursledon (CA) Junior School, Netley Abbey Infant School and Netley Abbey Junior School and is proposing to extend an existing portion of shared catchment area for all four schools to include housing to the south of the current portion of shared catchment area.

This consultation will run from Tuesday 1 September 2026 to Tuesday 29 September 2026.

What is being proposed?

The existing portion of shared catchment area between Bursledon CE (Controlled) Infant School, Bursledon (CA) Junior School, Netley Abbey Infant School and Netley Abbey Junior School was established to accommodate significant housing growth in the area between Netley and Bursledon and to recognise that these communities have reasonable access to either school.

The proposed extension of the portion of shared catchment area continues to recognise that these communities have reasonable access to either school and would ensure that catchment arrangements continue to align with local settlement patterns, support efficient use of school places, and provide families with access to the most appropriate local school provision.

It is proposed to extend the shared catchment boundary southwards to include residential properties within roads around Beverley Gardens, Pound Road, Priors Hill Lane and Luck Road. These areas are closely connected to the communities already served by the shared catchment and have good access to both the Netley Abbey and Bursledon schools. Please follow the links below for maps showing the current and proposed catchment areas:

There are no proposals to change the existing secondary school catchment arrangements. Likewise, there are no transitional arrangements proposed because families living in the affected area with children already in the schools will retain catchment priority for the existing catchment schools.

It is therefore proposed that the catchment boundaries be redrawn for school admissions from September 2028 onwards for Bursledon CE (Controlled) Infant School, Bursledon (CA) Junior School, Netley Abbey Infant School and Netley Abbey Junior School (this includes those children making applications as part of the main admissions round for Year R and Year 3 for September 2028).
