Food Management in the Home survey
Closed on

Between In September 2024 Hampshire County Council held a survey about ways to reduce the amount of food waste created in peoples’ homes. It received 1,068 responses.
The survey asked about people’s food shopping behaviours, how they plan meals, what is done with leftovers, and how they get rid of food that is not eaten. It compared results with those from a survey in 2023.
Respondents told us that they had not significantly changed their food purchasing behaviours since 2023, but there was a reduction in meal planning. We also learned that people produce fewer leftovers than in the previous year.
Feedback also suggested that people have a good understanding of the purpose of ‘best before’ and ‘use by’ food labels.
The results of the survey can be found in the data report, and will inform the Council’s policies on reducing food waste in Hampshire.
