Hampshire Youth Parliament
Opportunities for 11 to 18 year olds to bring about social change.
Your voice. Your county. Your HYP.
Hampshire Youth Parliament (HYP) is a group of young people aged 11–18 who work together to make Hampshire a better place for young people. We speak up about the issues that matter, influence decisions, and run projects that create real change.
HYP is part of the National UK Youth Parliament

What is the UK Youth Parliament?
Established 25 years ago, the UK Youth Parliament is a national initiative that empowers over 300 young people aged 11 to 18 to represent their peers and influence social and political change. Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and delivered by the National Youth Agency (NYA), the programme is supported by regional and national partners across the UK. Oversight is provided by a Youth Steering Group.
What we do
HYP pledges to:
- represent young people across Hampshire
- choose priority areas each year and lead projects on them
- meet decision makers (locally and nationally)
- build skills like leadership, teamwork, and public speaking
- run campaigns and events shaped by your ideas and experiences

How HYP works
Youth Councillors are young people from across Hampshire, elected by their school or college to represent HYP, attend meetings, and join a Project Group. Each Youth Councillor chooses one priority area to work on with others.
Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) are elected by Youth Councillors to lead on priority areas and represent Hampshire locally and nationally.
Our priorities
Our chosen priorities for 2026/2027 are:
- period poverty
- crime and safety (anti-social behaviour)
- cost of living
- misogyny
How to get involved
If you notice that your school or college isn’t currently represented in HYP, we’d love to hear from you!
If you are 11–18, or you work with young people at a school or college, you can complete our application form and someone from our team will get back to you.
Note that Youth Councillor elections are currently closed – we will be reopening them following appointment of our MYP’s. If you are interested in setting up Youth Councillor elections in your school or college please get in touch using application form and we will reach out to you at the end of March.
Volunteering with Hampshire Youth Parliament has given me the opportunity to meet many incredible young people who have inspired me to be more vocal about my beliefs and work to push for change in my local community.
It has given me confidence that our generation can bring about a better world for tomorrow, along with the skills I will need to help with this, by giving me a window into the world of decision makers and innumerable opportunities to learn new skills that have helped me in so many areas of my life.
