Petition - To install a pedestrian crossing on the A27 Peak Lane and the Avenue for parents and children in Fareham
Response from Hampshire County Council, December 2018
Thank you for your recent petition regarding the introduction of pedestrian facilities at the A27 The Avenue/Peak Lane, Fareham traffic signal junction.
The concern expressed by you and your fellow petitioners regarding the lack of facilities for pedestrians at this location is understood. In fact, the County Council is already considering its options for such an improvement. Introducing such facilities at the traffic signals will require the junction layout to be extensively modified to create space for the controlled crossings and while their introduction will bring about benefits to pedestrians the necessary construction works will be expensive. Current estimates are in the order of £¾m. This junction is in the County Council’s medium-term programme for refurbishment and modernisation of the traffic signal equipment and this could provide the opportunity to carry out a more extensive modification incorporating pedestrian facilities. The proposed introduction of pedestrian facilities has been therefore added to the Fareham Transport Statement to be considered for future funding opportunities.
Yours sincerely
Councillor Rob Humby
Executive Member for Environment and Transport
