Petition - Re-open Hyde Street to all vehicles
Response from Hampshire County Council, April 2021
Thank you for your e-mails of 20 March and 21 March in which you enclosed copies of the petition to re-open Hyde Street to all vehicles, which you helped to organise and the follow up email of 29 March with an additional ten signatories. Thank you also for the paper copy of the petition that was handed in at our offices by Caroline and Nick Dennis on Friday 19 March. As you will be aware, the petition has been checked and verified by Democratic & Member Services team following our established process.
As you will be aware, the Winchester Active Travel proposals (which included a scheme that could see Hyde Street closed to through traffic for a further 18-month trial period) were subject to public consultation between 17 February and 22 March 2021. Now that this consultation has closed, the responses are in the process of being analysed and the results of this consultation (and the results of consultations on other active travel proposals in other towns that were subject to consultation during this period) will be presented to me at a future Decision Day later this spring. The analysis of consultation results will then be published.
The number of signatories who have signed the petition and the locations where the petitioners live will be taken into account alongside the consultation results in future decision-making by the County Council about the Winchester Active Travel proposals.
Yours sincerely
Councillor Rob Humby
Executive Member for Environment and Transport
