Petition - Re-open Fishers Hill, Catisfield Lane to cars

Response from Hampshire County Council, July 2021

Thank you for bringing this petition to our attention.

We recognise the strength of feeling demonstrated by this petition, and it will be considered in the decision making regarding the future of Active Travel proposals on Fishers Hill. However, we would also highlight that we have received a great deal of feedback demonstrating that there is a significant amount of positive feeling towards the modal filter scheme that has been in place on Fishers Hill.

We would encourage yourself and all of those who have signed this petition to engage on the forthcoming consultation. The consultation will feature a survey that will provide us a greater understanding of the opinion on the Fishers Hill proposals. I understand you have already been provided details of this consultation in previous correspondence with HCC officers. More information on the consultation is available at the following webpage, which will be updated closer to the consultation start date: Hampshire Covid Travel.

In the meantime, I would like to ensure you are aware of the most recent press release regarding the removal of all Emergency Active Travel Fund schemes currently in place on Hampshire’s road network, including Fishers Hill: County Council to decommission emergency active travel schemes. In summary, all of the Emergency Active Travel schemes will be removed in line with Step 4 of the government road map, so not before 19 July.

Yours sincerely

Councillor Russell Oppenheimer
Executive Member for Highways Operations
