Concluding in December 2023, this programme improved broadband access and speeds for residents and businesses across the region.

The £40 million programme was funded by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), Hampshire County Council, borough and district councils, and commercial partners. The Programme delivered significant economic benefits, including creating more jobs and increasing business productivity.

As a result, numerous households and businesses across the county can now access the internet and benefit from superfast or ultrafast speeds (also known as gigabit-capable).

This enhanced connectivity boosts business efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness. Additionally, it enables people to stay connected with friends and family, work from home, schedule health appointments, manage finances, and conduct online banking.

Work is now underway to improve speeds for approximately 85,000 properties in Hampshire (the remaining 2.2%) that are currently accessing speeds below 24Mbps. The Government’s Project Gigabit aims to extend gigabit-capable broadband, ensuring continued digital growth and connectivity for Hampshire.
