When power continuity is your business, resilience starts at the top.
Shenton Group keeps organisations resilient when the mains fail – designing, installing and maintaining standby power solutions across generators, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and Combined Heat and Power (CHP). Now it’s powering up its own leadership.
Following targeted support from the Hampshire Growth Hub, delivered by Senior Growth Champion Roya Croudace, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) has reported a marked uplift in strategic focus and commercial awareness.
Founded in 1982, Shenton Group grew through brands including Scorpion Power Systems and Merlin Power Management before merging into today’s operation – retaining the accountability and pride of a family run enterprise while delivering corporate grade power solutions nationwide.
Reshaping leadership to match growth ambitions
Operating nationally from its Andover headquarters, Shenton Group supplies, installs and maintains critical power systems for public and private organisations – making leadership capacity pivotal to service quality and responsiveness.
As Chief People Officer Tara Lawson explains: “We recently reshaped our management tiers at Shenton Group which included raising the SLT seniority and implementing a Management Team layer under them to help run the day to day business.
“We identified we needed an external support who can come in, challenge and guide the group of six senior leaders in stepping up into more strategic thinking, departmental ownership and commercial awareness.”
Targeted intervention: four months of focused, practical sessions
To meet this need, Roya led a structured programme of support:
“Roya spent two hours a month for four months working with the team. The feedback was excellent and my experience with Roya was that she was highly professional, organised and skilled in her role,” said Tara, adding, “The team warmed to her quickly and her delivery was amazingly on point.”
The sessions built strategic thinking, reinforced departmental ownership and sharpened commercial decision making – changes that began to show in day to day leadership behaviours.
Measurable mindset shift and stronger local ties
The impact was clear:
“We’ve been chuffed with this provision offered by Hampshire County Council through the Hampshire Growth Hub and there is a tangible difference in the mindset and approach from the SLT as a result of Roya’s intervention,” said Tara.
“We enjoy strengthening local connections and were thrilled we could do so through using the Hampshire Growth Hub’s support services.”
Tara highlights two benefits: immediate performance gains and stronger local connections across Hampshire’s business ecosystem.
Chris Burchell, Strategic Growth Manager, who leads the Hampshire Growth Hub, said: “Business resilience starts with people – and Shenton Group has shown what happens when leadership invests in sharpening strategy and empowerment.
“We’re proud the Hampshire Growth Hub’s support, delivered by Roya Croudace, helped unlock that shift – and to see stronger local connections in Andover as a result.”
Why it matters
In an era of energy and infrastructure uncertainty, Shenton Group’s work – delivering turnkey standby generators, UPS and CHP, with 24/7 maintenance, monitoring, rental and emergency call out – underpins continuity for clients across sectors.
By investing in its SLT, the company sustains the standards it has developed over more than four decades, while preserving the focus and responsiveness that define a family run business.
