Visit Hampshire is the county’s official tourism brand, promoting Hampshire as a destination for visitors.
Purpose
Tourism plays an important role in Hampshire’s economy, supporting jobs, businesses and communities, helping to diversify and strengthen local economic growth, and enhancing Hampshire’s reputation as a place to visit, live and invest.
The role of the Tourism function at Hampshire County Council
Hampshire County Council’s role in tourism is strategic and enabling. This includes:
- Supporting economic growth through a strong and sustainable visitor economy
- Working with district, borough and unitary authorities on tourism‑related matters
- Encouraging appropriate and sustainable tourism and accommodation investment
- Identifying and sharing tourism trends and insights
- Supporting culture, heritage, leisure and recreation opportunities that benefit residents and visitors
Tourism officers at district, borough and unitary authorities are responsible for local tourism delivery and place‑based promotion.
Visit Hampshire activity
Visit Hampshire activity delivered on behalf of the county includes:
- The Visit Hampshire consumer website
- Digital and social media marketing
- Public relations and media activity
- Email marketing campaigns
- Partnership and group travel marketing
- Engagement with tourism businesses and sector partners
This activity promotes Hampshire’s cities, coast and countryside, national parks, attractions, events, food and drink, and accommodation offer.

Partnership working
Hampshire County Council works closely with district, borough and unitary authorities, tourism organisations and other partners to support a coordinated and sustainable approach to developing Hampshire’s visitor economy.
We also work with the Hampshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership along with Tourism South East.
