Consultation from Hampshire County Council in New Forest area
1. Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, that Hampshire County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to PENNINGTON CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL Priestlands Road, Pennington, Lymington, Hampshire, SO41 8HX (category of school – Voluntary Controlled School) with effect from September 2027.
2. There is an increasing number of children in the New Forest area who are being diagnosed with social, emotional and mental health needs and this proposal will provide new specialist school places to support them to access specialist education. A specialist provision catering for primary pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs is a priority need for the area.
3. The capacity of Pennington Church of England Primary School is for 210 pupils with 166 pupils currently on roll. The proposal is to expand Pennington CE Primary School, to include a Unit catering for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs utilising the former Pennington Infant School site. The site and accommodation available can create a new SEN provision for up to 50 pupils – this reflects the Department for Education building guidance and class sizes. Reconfiguration and significant building improvements are required together with new parking and drop off facilities. The provision would open in phases from September 2027.
4. This change will not affect the overall capacity of mainstream places at Pennington Church of England Primary School or the current social, emotional and mental health Resourced Provision.
5. The Capital costs for this proposed change are estimated to be in the region of £6 million.
6. This Notice is an extract from the complete proposal. Copies of the complete proposal may be obtained from Helen Ley SEN Partnership Development Manager, Children’s Services Department, EII Court North, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 8UG; e-mail: [email protected]
7. Within five weeks from the date of publication of these proposals (15 May – 19 June), any person may object or make comments on the proposal by sending them to Helen Ley SEN Partnership Development Manager, Children’s Services Department, EII Court North, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 8UG; by phone on: 03707 795312 or e-mail: [email protected]
