1. Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, that Hampshire County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to DENMEAD JUNIOR SCHOOL Bere Road, Denmead, Waterlooville, Hampshire, PO7 6PH (category of school – Community School) with effect from academic year 2027/28.
2. There are an increasing number of children in the Waterlooville area who are being diagnosed or on a pathway for a diagnosis of autism and this proposal will provide new specialist school places to support them to access a mainstream education.
3. The capacity of Denmead Junior School is for 360 pupils with 298 pupils currently on roll. This proposal will create a provision to meet the needs of up to 12 junior aged pupils with autism which will open in phases from academic year 2027/28. This change will not affect the overall capacity of mainstream places at Denmead Junior School.
4. The proposal is to utilise existing surplus accommodation to become the base for the Inclusion Base (Specialist) - improvements, minor adjustments, safeguarding measures, IT, and furniture will be provided together with creating a secure external play space.
5. The capital cost of this project will be known after a detailed feasibility and will be included the Children’s Services Capital Programme for approval by Executive Member in January 2027.
