Reference was made by the Leader of the Council, Councillor T.K. Thornber, CBE., to the recent tragic events in the United States of America. His views were echoed by Councillors A.P. Collett and W.H. Wheeler, Leaders of the Liberal Democrat and Labour Groups respectively. The Reverend Dr. Derek Overfield, Chaplain to the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority, conducted a short service of prayer before the meeting started and Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of all those who had perished.
20. HONORARY ALDERMEN
Councillor T.K. Thornber, CBE., Leader of the Council, presented the report of the Policy and Resources Committee and without dissent it was
ORDERED:
That, in recognition of the eminent service that they rendered to the Council over many years, the Office of Honorary Alderman be conferred on former County Councillors Capt. M.P.R. Boyle, DL., H.R. Cole, D.A. Keep and G.E. Raymond, M.B.E., and that their names be admitted to the Roll of Honour of Honorary Aldermen of Hampshire County Council.
