Report of the Convenor of the Northern Panel
1. Introduction
1.1. During the period covered by the report the Northern Panel comprised 16 active members. It also saw the re-opening of Basingstoke Custody Suite and the closure of Farnborough for this purpose.
1.2. There were two panel meetings during this period.
1.3. Co-operation between custody visitors and custody staff continue to be very good, and even at busy times custody visitors are dealt with as promptly as possible. On rare occasions when there is a delay, coffee and a seat away from the custody desk are offered.

Note: Includes one visit made to Farnborough during the six month period
2.1. As can be seen from the figures Basingstoke had the highest number of detainees.
2.2. It was obvious from conversations with detainees that the custody staff were carrying out their duties I a sympathetic and efficient way.
2.3. If there is on problem to be highlighted it is the poor standard of cleaning in some custody areas.
2.4. As usual my thanks are due to the Panel members for their work during this period.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the report be noted.
