2.1. Overall comments made by Independent Custody Visitors were the excellent cleanliness of the custody suites and the helpfulness of the custody suite staff.

2.2. All detainees seen were satisfied with their treatment whilst in custody and there were no complaints.

2.3. Concerns raised were: temperature of cell 6 at Newport very uncomfortable, female on remand kept at custody suite whilst attending Magistrates' Court (more than one night), crack in corridor under window to outside yard.

3. Other Comments

3.1. Several aborted visits has made figures low for this period.

3.2. The new lights installed are a great improvement (dim lighting reported in previous report).

3.3. We were delighted to have as our guest at our panel meeting in January, Chief Supt. Graham Wyeth from Southampton (especially as he was getting over the flu) and Inspector Ross from Newport (who was on leave). We would like to thank them both for such an informative evening and appreciate their attendance.

3.4. The convenor was invited to a visit with Supt. Dawson (Newport) to keep in touch and discuss any relevant matters. Supt. Dawson continues to give his support and help and this is an asset to the panel.

3.5. The panel found no breach of the Code of Practice governing the treatment and welfare of detainees.
