1.1. Attached are the summary sheets in respect of the following meetings of Police and Community Liaison Groups:-

Eastleigh 29 August, 2001
Fareham 30 August, 2001
10 September, 2001 (to follow)
Gosport 19 July, 2001
Havant 12 July, 2001
17 July, 2001

6 September, 2001
20 September, 2001 (to follow)
New Forest 4 September, 2001
North East 4 July, 2001
17 September, 2001 (to follow)
Southampton 11 July, 2001

1.2. Since April 2001 the Police Authority has consulted with 1600 members of the public. This includes two youth meetings, and three public consultation events in town shopping areas/centres, and one event with a hard to reach group.

1.3. The Constabulary Exhibition Bus was used at the consultation event in Havant and Gosport Town Centres. Both events were well received locally with a combined total of 192 questionnaires being successfully completed. Both Police Authority Members and PCLG Members attended these events which contributed to the success

2. The Chantry Centre, Andover - 11 August, 2001

2.1. This event was organised by the Community Affairs Steering Group. The Police Authority Stand was displayed in the Chantry Centre, with 31 questionnaires being completed. The event was also supported by a Personal Development and Recruitment Officer and Specials Recruitment. Although it was an excellent location in the centre, the public were reluctant to stop and complete questionnaires on a busy Saturday morning.

2.2. Afro-Caribbean Fun Day, Southampton - 28 July, 2001

2.3. The Authority was invited to attend the event in conjunction with the Constabulary. Although only 19 questionnaires were completed during the afternoon event, it was felt that a major step had been made with the Authority being invited to attend the event. Unfortunately the Authority Stand had been situated in a side room which would appear to explain the low number of questionnaires, although attempts were made to circulate within the main hall.

3. Review of Consultation

3.1. This extensive piece of work is still ongoing, and the deadline for receipt of responses from Members has been extended to Friday, 14 September. The outcome will be reported to the Authority meeting on Tuesday, 20 November 2001.

4. Police and Community Liaison Group Annual Seminar, 2001

4.1. Due to the extension of timescales to review consultation, the Annual Seminar, which was arranged for Thursday, 11 October, 2001 at Netley, has been cancelled.

4.2. A future date will be advised after the Authority meeting on 20 November 2001.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the report be noted.
