1. Introduction

1.1 The Committee reviewed a report in March 2000, which set out the arrangements for piloting various aspects of the new Connexions Service and Connexions strategy across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The Committee requested a further report in Spring 2001 on "the lessons that emerge from all of the national pilots, with particular reference to any future resource expectations of the agencies represented on the Combined Youth Justice Committee". In January 2001, the Committee agree to postpone its request for a review until September.

2. Background

2.1 The Committee will receive a verbal presentation from Lorna Sampson, Implementation Manager for the South Central Connexions Partnership. This partnership is a legal entity, the member organisation of which are the four local authorities and Southern Careers.

2.2 The partnership is on course to implement the new Connexions Service during 2002/3, providing a service for all young people aged 13 to 19 years across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

2.3 Young offenders and young people at risk of offending, are a priority group for the new service, and the Youth Offending Team will work closely with it. The Youth Offending Team Manager is a member of an implementation team set up by the Connexions Partnership Board, and Area Managers of the Yot attend the four local management committees (Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight).

3. Recommendation

3.1 It is recommended that the Committee note the progress being made to establish the Connexions Service for Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Southampton and Portsmouth
