Personal Development Grants

Report of the Chief Executive

The following applications have been received from people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. Details are as follows:

1. Katherine Lyons, Hedge End

    Katherine has been attending the Central School of Ballet in London since last

    summer. Katie's scholarship covers all her tuition fees and she is also eligible

    for a maintenance grant. This grant does not cover the total cost of

    accommodation, food, travel, books and dance wear. This leaves Katherine with a shortfall of £200-300 per month.

    Recommendation: £150

2. Kate Raggs, Andover

    Kate has just completed her A levels at Peter Symonds' College in Winchester.

    In March next year she is travelling to Ecuador to carry out voluntary

    Conservation work in Santa Lucia Clandforest. She needs to raise £3,500

    Which will cover travelling, food accommodation costs.

    Recommendation: £150

3. Milli Carreras, Eastleigh

    Milli, as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award for Hampshire Venture Scouts is undertaking a project in Tanzania in March next year to help build/renovate a school in a Tanzanian township. Also while she is there, Milli will climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

    Milli needs to raise £2,200 towards her trip and has just started to fundraise for this.

    Recommendation: £150

4. Hannah Kisiel, Yateley

Hannah is seventeen years of age and has been trampolining since the age of five. This year, she finished second in her first two National Competitions and has represented her Country on many other occasions.

Hannah already receives a sports bursary award of £110 per year from the County Council and has been recognised as being a top sportsperson by winning the Michael Austin Harlick Award in 1998 and 1999.

The County School Sports Officer is fully supportive of this application.

Recommendation: £150

5. Edward Crosthwaite Eyre, Andover

Edward (18) has been assigned a placement for a GAP Activity Project to Argentina for four months next March. Once there, he will teach English to schoolchildren and getting involved in some community work outside teaching. The cost of the placement will be approximately £2,000, of which he has raised £900 so far.

Recommendation: £150

6. Emma North, Shawford

Emma (18) has finished taking her A levels and intends to take a gap year before starting University. She has been reserved a place on a Raleigh International project to Costa Rica during late February and early May next year. She will be undertaking challenging community and environmental work on helping to build and renovate schools, medical and community centres.

Emma has to raise £3,200 for her project of which she has £1,960.

Recommendation: £150
