1 Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

Authority to consult with school communities and other interested parties in south west Basingstoke, on the future of primary school provision in the area, using the attached paper as the basis for consultation.

2 Reason

2.1 Consultation is a statutory requirement in respect of a potential school closure. Outcomes of the consultations will form the basis of a future report. This will enable local communities and interested parties to play a full part in any future decisions regarding changes to primary school provision in the area.

3 Other options considered and rejected - not applicable.

4 Conflicts of interest declared by the decision maker or a member or officer consulted - not applicable.

5 Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - not applicable.

6 Reasons for the matter being dealt with if urgent

6.1 In the light of the fire at Beech Down Primary School and its subsequent temporary nature, there is uncertainty in the area regarding future primary school provision.
