The following applications have been received from young people in Hampshire undertaking expeditions, overseas projects, personal development, etc. Details are as follows:

1. Emily Petley-Jones, Winchester

Emily (22) is undertaking a teaching project in Tanzania during January and August next year. Once there, she will teach English and Science and develop an understanding of the Tanzanian community. Emily is required to raise £3,058 towards her fees, accommodation, insurances, etc.

Recommendation: £150

2. Suzannah Webster, Headley Down

Suzannah (14) has been chosen to take part in World Challenge Expeditions to Peru in the Summer of 2003 for one month. Suzannah will be able to develop essential life skills, including leadership, self-management teamwork and at the same time help construct play facilities in a village within Peru. Total cost: £3,000 plus equipment for projects within the village.

Recommendation: £150

3. Georgina Thompson, Winchester

Georgina has been selected by World Challenge Expeditions, to go to Belize in January 2002 on a building conservation project for three months. Work to be carried out includes, reserve wardening, trail clearance and maintenance and development of educational materials.

Georgina needs to raise £3,000 towards her costs and is currently fundraising through a sponsored swim, working and other projects.

Recommendation: £150

4. Katie Neighbour, Waterlooville

Katie is a member of Waterlooville scouts undertaking a month-long expedition to Tanzania next year. Once there she will work on a community project and help build a school. The cost for each member is £2,100.

Recommendation: £150
