Central Hampshire Area Rural Transport Strategy -
Petersfield Town Centre

Report of the County Surveyor

Item 12

Contact: Julie Jarvis, ext 6592

1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

That commencement of detailed design work for the proposed Petersfield Town Centre scheme be approved.

2. Reason

2.1 On 23 February 2001 the Central Hampshire Rural Transport Strategy Members' Panel recommended to the former Planning and Transportation Committee that public consultation on the traffic management scheme for the Petersfield 20 miles per hour zone be approved and the results be reported to the next meeting of the Panel. A report to the Panel on 9 November 2001 set out the findings and conclusions of the consultation (copy attached as an appendix).

2.2 Implementation of the scheme, one of the proposals within the Petersfield Area Transport Strategy (PATS), will improve the `historic core' of the town centre for pedestrians and cyclists. The scheme will also introduce other measures that will improve the appearance and environment of the High Street and The Square.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected - Not applicable.

4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or a Member or Officer consulted - Not applicable.

5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - Not applicable.

6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - Not applicable.
