COPNOR FIRE STATION AND B DIVISION HEADQUARTERS.
1. In order to resolve issues associated with structural building problems at the Copnor Fire Station and B Division Headquarters, the Authority has authorised the Chief Fire Officer to commit capital expenditure of not more than £100,000 to provide temporary accommodation at other Fire Service sites for staff currently based at the B Division Headquarters.
2. The Copnor Fire Station vehicles and personnel will be relocated to Southsea Fire Station; initially on a temporary basis pending the outcome of public consultation on proposals for the rationalisation of fire cover in Portsmouth. The Chief Fire Officer has made clear that if Copnor Fire Station was to close firefighting resources overall would not be reduced, and the current response times and excellent standards of fire cover in Portsmouth would be maintained and improved on in certain areas. Final approval for any changes rests with the Secretary of State for the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions.
3. The estimated costs involved with the above temporary arrangements will be reported to the Authority, together with outline proposals for the longer-term development of the Headquarters site at Eastleigh. This will include an analysis of both capital and revenue budget implications and a full project appraisal in due course.
