Report of the Chief Executive

Contact: Karen Widdowson - Ext: 7334

1. Summary

The following decisions are sought:

1.1. That the Hampshire music Service continue to be provided by the County Council and continue to improve and expand in line with existing service plans.

1.2. That music awards and ensembles continue to be funded by the County Council and continue to be managed and led by the Service.

1.3. That the provision for pupils with SEN (special educational needs) continue to be provided by the Service.

1.4. That the existing priorities for Standards Fund expenditure be sustained.

1.5. That Councillor K.G. Chapman be appointed the Member representative on the Hampshire Music Service Accommodation Working Group.

1.6. That members of staff in the Hampshire Music Service be congratulated on their achievements.

2. Reasons

2.1. The advice above was endorsed by the Education Policy Review Committee at its meeting on 20 December 2001. There was considerable discussion on
the issue of the Service's accommodation and it was noted that the current temporary accommodation would be the base for the service whilst good quality alternative accommodation was found. The Committee were clearly of the opinion that the accommodation facilities for the service should be improved. The outcome report highlighted the need for a working group to consider and make recommendations on future accommodation provisions for the service. It was suggested that Councillor K.G. Chapman be appointed the Member representative on the working group.

3. Other options considered and rejected - Taking no action.

4. Conflicts of Interest declared by the decision maker or a member or officer consulted - Not applicable.

5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - Not applicable.

6. Reasons for the matter being dealt with if urgent - Not applicable.
