Winchester Movement and Access Plan -
Romsey Road Corridor Public Consultation

Report of the County Surveyor

Item 8

Contact: Nick Richardson, ext 5429

1. Summary

1.1 The following decision is sought:

That public consultation on proposals for the Romsey Road corridor be undertaken.

2. Reason

2.1 The Romsey Road corridor forms a key radial route into Winchester. A number of major employers are located on the route and it provides a link to the railway station and city centre. A number of coordinated measures are possible including improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and bus users, and children travelling to local schools. It is proposed to undertake widespread public consultation in 2002 following which the outcome will be reported to the Winchester Movement and Access Plan Panel. Members of the Panel have indicated that they wish to be involved at an early stage.

2.2 A report to the Winchester Movement and Access Plan Joint Members' Panel of 4 December 2001, attached as an appendix, recommended that public consultation be undertaken in spring 2002.

3. Other Options Considered and Rejected - Not applicable.

4. Conflicts of Interest Declared by the Decision Maker or a Member or Officer consulted - Not applicable.

5. Dispensation granted by the Standards Committee - Not applicable.

6. Reason(s) for the Matter being dealt with if Urgent - Not applicable.
