PART II

Champion for Older People

1. Councillor Mrs. S.M. Glasspool DL has been appointed the County Council's Champion for Older People until May, 2002.

2. The appointment of a Champion for Older People is a requirement of the National Service Framework (NSF) for Older People which sets out a programme of action to improve and deliver high quality services for older people.

3. The NSF gives no specific terms of reference for the role other than to say that the appointee will be the lead member for older people within the authority and be responsible for ensuring that older people will become and remain a priority within the authority and for supporting the implementation of the NSF to ensure that older people are never unfairly discriminated against in accessing NHS or social care services as a result of their age.
