ARTS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT GRANTS 2001/02.
1. Eight applications have been received for project development grants from groups planning to organise arts projects for Hampshire during the financial year 2001/02. Activities to be funded from the grants include concerts by the Farnborough Symphony Orchestra, film-making by young persons groups from Basingstoke and Horndean, a monthly newsletter detailing folk activities in the South Hampshire area and workshops for children who will explore different methods of communication using theatre, printing and the written word. Grants totalling £3,150 have been approved with three being subject to support from other appropriate local authorities.
2. The two for one award scheme fosters a positive relationship between business and the arts by matching new sponsorships valued between £200 and £500; grants have been awarded in this category for a chamber music concert and a summer revue.
3. Grants have also been awarded to community associations and village hall committees who seek to enable local people to meet the recreational, educational, social, cultural and environmental needs of their local communities. A total of £38,000 has been allocated to nine schemes in Eastleigh, Havant, Winchester, the New Forest and Test Valley with two of the grants being subject to appropriate contributions from Winchester City Council and Test Valley Borough Council.
